Broncos Finish Regular Season with 2-0 Win at Saint Mary's

MORAGA, Calif. – On the final day of the regular season, No. 18 Santa Clara women's soccer defeated Saint Mary's 2-0 to put its record at 11-3-6 overall and 4-1-3 in the WCC. Saint Mary's will finish its season at 6-12-2 and 1-7-0 in conference.

Santa Clara will now wait for the NCAA Selection show broadcast live on NCAA.com on Monday at 1:30 p.m.

Julie Johnston and Sofia Huerta scored the Bronco goals while Johnston also added an assist. Santa Clara fired off 19 shots and 12 on goal to Saint Mary's eight shots and three on goal. Andi Tostanoski recorded three saves.

Kate Brenot of Saint Mary's came up big in goal while collecting 10 saves to keep her team in the game.

The Broncos jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 18th minute off the foot of Huerta. Johnston sent a pass to Huerta that deflected off of a defender. Huerta was able to gain control of the ball and shoot from eight yards out to get it past the goalkeeper.

With the game nearly over, Johnston put Santa Clara up 2-0 in the 88th minute. Johnston got the ball and dribbled through several Gales' defenders before firing a shot into the back of the net to seal the win.
