SANTA CLARA, Calif. – With its long tradition of excellence, Santa Clara women's soccer is set to welcome a new class of freshmen to the Mission campus. SantaClaraBroncos.com will introduce one incoming player a day for the next eight days. Next up is Jenna Roering of Lino Lakes, Minn.
"I immediately fell in love with Santa Clara for many reasons," said Roering. "The academic program was in line with what I was looking for in college. On my first campus visit, I enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the beautiful buildings and all the open area. I play soccer and cannot wait to play with the Broncos. The girls on the team are awesome, and the coaching staff was so accommodating and encouraging. I had the opportunity to talk with the coaches almost weekly, and they continue to be interested in my progress, not only athletically but also academically. I have lived in Minnesota all my life and the beautiful, warm weather in California will be a welcome change from the cold winters. I am looking forward to college and playing soccer on one of the best teams in the nation."
"Jenna Roering is a tremendous goal scorer," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith, entering his 27th season leading the Broncos. "She will add a number of dimensions. She's fast, she's clever, but it's really her goal scoring ability that separates her. She scored over 100 goals in high school, which is quite a big number. We're really looking forward to Jenna coming in here and scoring some goals for us."
Roering attended Centennial High School in Circle Pines, Minn., and was coached by Ginger Flohaug, Rob Magone and Lori Guyer. The team was two-time conference champions, three-time sectional champions, appeared in two state tournaments and finished in third place in the state championships in 2011.
Roering was a five-year letter winner, team captain for two years and was named MVP twice. Additionally, she is was All-Conference all four years, All-State three years, 2012 Star Tribute Player of the Year, 2011 and 2012 Gatorade Player of the Year and 2011 ESPN All-American First-Team.
On the field, Roering had 34 goals and 16 assists during her senior year, 34 goals and 12 assists her junior year and 20 goals and 9 assists during her sophomore year. She is just the second player in Minnesota history in AA schools to score over 100 goals.
Roering also participated in the U-18 National Team Training Camp in 2011. She was named ECNL Four Year player, ECNL All-Tournament player and ID2 Champions in 2011.
Off the field, Roering enjoys socializing, coaching soccer, spending time with friends and family and loves animals. Her parents are Jess and Becky Roering and she has one sibling, Jesse (15). Her relative, Rob McMenomy, played football for the US Air Force. She hopes to become a published author and a sports instructor in the future.
