Meet the Future of Santa Clara Women's Soccer: Morgan Brown

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – With its long tradition of excellence, Santa Clara women's soccer is set to welcome a new class of freshmen to the Mission campus. SantaClaraBroncos.com will introduce one incoming player a day for the next eight days. Next up is Morgan Brown of Chino Hills, Calif. The complete list is below.

"I was looking for a college with a relatively small campus, and a small student to teacher ratio," said Brown. "In addition, Santa Clara has a fantastic women's soccer program that has good team chemistry- also something I was seeking. Santa Clara has a beautiful campus and a prodigious educational program as well, and I feel it would be the best place for me to start my career. Something to me just clicked when I visited the campus. Everyone seemed so involved with the extracurricular activities, where many would come to the games and show some spirit, cheering the team on. They were affable and made me feel welcomed, including the soccer players. Unlike the other colleges I visited, the soccer teammates were great, sociable and easygoing."

"Morgan will play in our backline and that is where we need the most help in terms of depth," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith, entering his 27th season leading the Broncos. "She can play center back or outside back and is a very smart player. She is very tactically aware and comfortable on the ball."

Brown attended Ruben S. Ayala High School in Chino Hills, Calif., and was coached by Jeffrey Allen. Her team was Undefeated Sierra League Champions in 2010-11, CIF-SS D2 quarter finalist in 2010, CIF D3 finalist in 2011, CIF D3 quarter finalist in 2012. Additionally, her team participated in the CIF State Playoffs in 2011.

Individual honors include All-CIF-SS D2 Third-Team in 2009-10, Athletic Sierra League Award First-Team Defense in 2010, Athletic All ALeague Award 2nd team in 2011 and Sierra League Defensive MVP in 2012.

Outside of her high school team, Brown also played for FRAM CA Premiere GU 17 and helped lead the team to be CSL Premier League Champions, Surf Cup Champions and West Coast Futball Classic Champions in 2011. In 2012, her team was the Far West Regional League Spring Season Champions, Cal South National Cup Champions and Surf/College Cup Champions.

She played with 1995 Girls CalSouth ODP team that was crowned 2012 US Youth Soccer ODP champion in Texas.
