Three Women's Soccer Players Taken in NWSL Supplemental Draft

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Continuing to show that it produces top talent, Santa Clara women's soccer had three players picked in the new National Women's Soccer League Supplemental Draft on Feb. 7. The three players chosen were Bianca Henninger '11 by FC Kansas City in the second round, Jordan Angeli '09 by the Washington Spirit in the third round and Marian Dalmy '06 by the Portland Thorns FC in the fourth round.

"I'm very excited for Bianca Henninger, Marian Dalmy and Jordan Angeli, the three players who got drafted today into the new women's soccer professional league," said Bronco head coach Jerry Smith. "I'm very excited that we have a league again. After two attempts to play in the biggest stadiums, the league has a very sensible plan to grow. I'm very happy for the Santa Clara players, I'm very excited about this new league and we look forward to even more of our Santa Clara Broncos making these teams through the try-out process."

Henninger was a two-time All-American, including a First-Team selection in 2010. As a senior she was named the West Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year, a Third-Team All-American and First-Team All-WCC selection. Her junior year saw Henninger win the U.S. Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Year, First-Team All-American honors, NSCAA College Scholar All-America First-Team, Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Season Second-Team, Second-Team MVP by Soccer America, a First-Team All-WCC selection, Academic All-District Second-Team and was on the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy preseason watch list. As a sophomore Henninger was named to the All-West Region Third-Team and earned a spot on the WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention team.

Angeli was named the 2009 WCC Defensive Player of the Year, earned All-WCC First Team Honors, received NSCAA All-West Region First Team recognition, named a second-team NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-American and was named to the All-WCC Academic Team as a senior. Her junior year she spent the first two weeks of the season in Russia at the FIFA Under-20 World Championships with the U.S. U-20 National Team. As a sophomore was named to Soccer Buzz' All-West Region Second Team, was an All-WCC Second-Team performer, earned WCC All-Academic honors as well as Second-Team All-District VIII academic honors. Her freshman year shge was named a Soccer Buzz Freshman All-America Second-Team member, All-WCC Honorable Mention, WCC All-Freshman selection and a Soccer Buzz All-West Region Freshman Team honoree.

Dalmy was named WCC Player of the Year as a senior as well as being All-WCC First-Team and All-West Region First-Team. As a junior she was All-America honorable mention, All-West Region Second-Team and First-Team All-WCC. Her sophomore year she was First-Team All-WCC and Second-Team All-West Region. In her freshman year she was named to the West Region All-Freshman team.
