Women's Soccer Wins Second Spring Game

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's soccer moved its spring record to 2-0 with a 4-1 win over the Sacramento Storm on April 14. Brittany Ambrose scored her first goal as a Bronco and Sofia Huerta added a hat trick.

The Broncos' third spring game will be on Sat., April 20 at Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon vs. Bay Area Breeze. The game will be part of the Team Breezy Collegiate Cup which is a charity event benefiting the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF). The Breeze, Santa Clara, Cal and Stanford will play in the tournament. To read Breezy's inspiring story, click here.

"We had the same score from our first game but we got there in a very different way," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "In the first game against Cal, the four goals bailed out a very average and mundane performance by the team. In game two, I thought we deserved the victory that we got. In other words, we worked hard to be a good attacking team and that generated many scoring chances. We felt much better about our performance in game two."

Despite the 4-1 final, the Broncos fell behind early in the match. The Breeze applied pressure to Santa Clara's back line and scored an early goal. The Broncos were missing three regulars for the match. Morgan Marlborough was with the U-23 team while Dani Weatherholt and Andi Tostanoski were with the U-20s.
