Marlborough Nabs Second WCC Player of the Week Honor

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – For the second time this season, Morgan Marlborough was named the West Coast Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week. Marlborough also won the award for Sept. 12 when she had a hat trick vs. Iowa State in a 5-1 win.

"Our team showed true character and heart to work together and come back from the deficit," said Marlborough. "I'm extremely proud to be part of this team and I couldn't have done this without them."

"Scoring goals in the hardest thing to do in our sport so for a player to have three hat tricks in one season and two in back-to-back weekends is remarkable," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "Morgan's hat tricks have come against stingy defensive teams and one was on senior day. When we talked to Morgan about transferring here, her goal-scoring jumped off the page at us and she's certainly found her form. We're very proud and happy for her."

Marlborough registered her third hat trick of the season, and second in as many weeks, vs. Pepperdine on Nov. 3. Marlborough also added an assist for an impressive seven points.

Only a great performance from the LMU goalkeeper on Nov. 1 kept Marlborough from scoring more goals on the week. She fired off 10 shots, with six on goal, against the Lions.

The Broncos wrap-up the regular season with a trip to the Pacific Northwest this week. Santa Clara faces Portland on Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. on ESPNU and Gonzaga Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. If the Broncos win at Portland, they will capture their 10th WCC title and first since 2006.
