Women's Soccer Ties First Spring Match

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In the first spring game of the season, Santa Clara women's soccer tied the Sacramento Storm 1-1. Sofia Huerta scored the lone Bronco goal while Katie Speidel had the assist.

"I thought we played pretty poorly in our first spring match of the season," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "We have five goals that we're trying to accomplish and we didn't meet any. There were some good individual performances, but as a team we played poorly. At the same time, it's a starting point. We're excited at the challenge of putting the pieces of the puzzle together with this group of players. This was out first game since last November and that showed. We lost a significant number of senior players so we're trying a number of different things. We're looking forward to trying to accomplish our five spring goals again in our next match against Cal."

The Broncos return to the field Thurs., April 10 at 7 p.m. vs. Cal at Buck Shaw.
