Broncos Win Third Spring Game; Stanford Match Postponed

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Playing its second semi-pro team of the spring, Santa Clara women's soccer topped the Bay Area Breeze 1-0 for the first Bronco shutout of the season. Dani Weatherholt scored the lone goal in the game.

"We came out a little flat in the first half and neither team had many scoring chances," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "That sometimes happens when you play a new opponent but it lasted a little longer than I like to see. We made a formation change at halftime and I felt that helped us have a better second half. I was a little disappointed with the slow start to the game but I was happy with the second half. It was our first shutout of the year so we were very happy with that and overall there were more positives to take away. We also scored a nice team goal by Dani Weatherholt. It wasn't a spectacular looking goal but it was a hard-working, grinding, gritty goal. Sometimes those are more important than the spectacular looking goals."

Santa Clara was originally scheduled to play Stanford on Tues., April 15 at 7 p.m. but the game has been postponed. Check back to SantaClaraBroncos.com for updates on the rescheduling. As of now, the next Santa Clara game will be Thurs., May 1 at 7 p.m. vs. Ajax at Buck Shaw.
