Women's Soccer Ties CSUN, Beats San Jose State in Spring Games

Spring Schedule

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's soccer went undefeated in a pair of spring games over the weekend. The Broncos tied CSUN 2-2 on Saturday and beat San Jose State 3-1 on Sunday.

On Saturday, CSUN jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead and maintained the advantage at halftime.

Katie Pingel and Ashley Doyle scored a goal each in the second half to tie the score and the game ended in a tie after two overtime periods.

It was Santa Clara's first game against a collegiate opponent since the second round of the NCAA tournament in November.

"This game was a good reminder about what it's like to play against other college teams," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "College teams are so competitive and we weren't ready for that intensity in the first half. I thought we regrouped well in the second half and came away with the tie."

On Sunday the Broncos rested eight of their starters but still came away with the win against the Spartans.

Jenna Roering found the back of the net twice and Pingel added her second goal in as many days,

"A lot of people who didn't play a lot last season got some good opportunities on Sunday," said Smith. "I thought everyone played well for us and the team did a good job in spite of having a lot of players resting."

Santa Clara is back on the pitch on April 29 at 7 p.m. at Stevens Stadium against Cal.
