Women's Soccer Heads to San Diego Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Continuing the opening weekend of West Coast Conference play, Santa Clara women's soccer travels to San Diego to face the Toreros Saturday at 7 p.m. on TheW.tv. The Broncos enter the match at No. 27 in the RPI.

Santa Clara is 17-7 all-time against San Diego with the first meeting coming in 1992. Last season the Broncos beat the Toreros 2-1 at Stevens Stadium. The last meeting in San Diego was a 3-1 win for Santa Clara in 2014.

On Thursday Santa Clara battled to a scoreless draw at No. 3 BYU.

In their 11 games, the Broncos have played 10 teams that went to the NCAA Tournament in 2015 and have faced six ranked opponents. Santa Clara is 2-2-2 in those six matches and has not lost a game this season by more than one goal.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (3-4-4. 0-0-1) is led on offense by Jordan Jesolva and her four goals. She also leads the team with two assists and 10 points. Jenna Roering is second on the team with three goals and seven assists. Julie Vass, Janae Gonzalez, and Kellie Peay each have one goal and four Broncos have one assist apiece.

Melissa Lowder has appeared in eight games this season and has allowed seven goals for a 0.85 GAA. She has 27 saves and a .794 save percentage to go with three shutouts.

THE TOREROS
San Diego (6-4-1, 1-0) has won two matches in a row, including a 3-1 win over San Francisco in the WCC-opener. The Toreros are 4-0-1 at home this season.

They have outscored opponents 16-15 but have been outshot 141-108 and 60-45 in shots on goal. San Diego has surrendered just three first half goals but have given up 11 in the second half.

Jaqueline Altschuld leads the team with four goals and is tied with Summer Mason for the team lead with three assists. Summer is second on the team three goals. Julia Sherwood has scored two goals and six other Toreros have one goal each.

Amber Michel has played every minute in net and allowed 15 goals for a 1.30 GAA. She has made 44 saves and has a .746 save percentage while collecting four shutouts.
