Women's Soccer Hosts Long Beach State in First Round of NCAA Tournament

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – For the 26th time in program history, Santa Clara women's soccer is in the NCAA Tournament. The Broncos host Long Beach State Saturday at 1 p.m. in a first round showdown. It is a rematch of the first round matchup from a year ago.

Santa Clara is 4-0 all-time vs. Long Beach State with three of the four meetings coming in the NCAA Tournament. Last season the Broncos beat the 49ers 1-0.

Santa Clara closed out the regular season with a 2-1 overtime victory at San Francisco on Saturday.

Six Broncos were honored on the West Coast Conference on Tuesday. Gudrun Arnardottir was named Freshman of the Year as well as Second Team All-WCC and Freshman All-WCC. Jordan Jesolva was named First Team All-WCC and Kellie Peay joined Arnardottir on the second team. Melissa Lowder and Julie Vass were All-WCC honorable mention and Maddie Gonzalez was on the All-Freshman team.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (9-6-4, 6-2-1 West Coast Conference) finished the regular season No. 34 in the RPI and finished with one of the 10 toughest schedules in the country. The Broncos won their final four games and have won six of their past seven.

Jesolva leads the team with eight goals and four assists for 20 points. Maddie Gonzalez and Jenna Roering have each added three goals apiece with three and one assist respectively.

Vass, Peay, and Natalie Kennedy have each scored twice and three others have added one goal each. Eleven Broncos have picked up at least one assist.

Lowder has allowed 13 goals in 16 games for a 0.80 GAA. She has made 48 saves for a .787 save percentage and has six shutouts. Courtney Ogren has one shutout as well, giving Santa Clara seven on the year.

THE 49ERS
Long Beach State (10-6-4, 4-1-3 Big West) won the Big West Tournament to receive the automatic bid. The 49ers have won three in a row and are unbeaten (4-0-2) in their last six games.

They have outscored opponents 30-16 on the year and outshot teams 257-200 with a 118-96 edge in shots on goal.

Ashley Gonzales led the team with 11 goals and added three assists for 25 points. Mimi Rangel scored four times and tied for the team lead with five assists. Chloe Froment also had five assists while Jessica Vincent and Kaitlin Fregulia scored three times each.

Ashton McKeown allowed 11 goals in 17 games for a 0.61 GAA. She mad 71 saves for an .866 save percentage and picked up nine shutouts on the season.

Gates to Stevens Stadium, as well as its ticket office, are open one hour prior to the start of the match.

Parking: Parking is available in the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, and the main structure, located adjacent to Stevens Stadium on Palm Drive.
