Women's Soccer Welcomes UC Irvine Thursday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – With nonconference playing winding down, Santa Clara women's soccer hosts UC Irvine Thursday at 7:30 p.m. It will be the last nonconference game at Stevens Stadium for the Broncos.

Last week Santa Clara posted a convincing 4-1 victory at Seattle on Monday before dropping a tough match to No. 2 Stanford 2-1.

SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 13-0-1 all-time against UC Irvine with the first meeting coming in 1984. Last year the Broncos beat the Anteaters 1-0 at home. The last meeting in Irvine was a 4-0 Santa Clara victory in 2015.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (3-5-1) has scored 15 goals this season and put 50 of its 107 shots on goal. The Broncos have drawn 51 corners while surrendering 33.

Maria Sanchez leads the team with nine points and three assists while placing second with three goals. Maddy Gonzalez has scored a team-high four goals and is second with eight points. Julie Doyle has scored three times and Kelsey Turnbow has two goals and two assists.

Melissa Lowder and Courtney Ogren have both seen significant time in net. Ogren has allowed three goals for a 0.93 GAA and made eight saves for a .727 save percentage. Lowder has made 28 saves and has a .651 save percentage.

THE ANTEATERS
UC Irvine (4-2-3) dropped its first game of the year at Cal but came back with a seven-match unbeaten streak before falling to Pepperdine on Sunday.

The Anteaters have outscored opponents 11-7 and hold a 119-67 edge in shots. They have put 50 shots on frame and allowed 34 while drawing 43 corners and giving up 18.

Kiana Palacios leads the team with four goals and nine points. Reema Bzeih has a team-high five assists while Noel Baham has scored twice and added three assists. Shelby Lee and Grayson Gallbraith have each added two goal as well.

Maddie Newsome has allowed seven goals for a 0.73 GAA. She has made 26 saves and has a .788 save percentage with five shutouts.

Parking: For weekday matches, the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to kickoff. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located adjacent to Stevens Stadium on Palm Drive.
