Women's Soccer Ends Nonconference Play with 1-0 Win at Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – In the final nonconference match of the season, Santa Clara women's soccer topped Cal Poly 1-0 Sunday afternoon.

The lone goal of the match came in the 80th minute from Natalie Kennedy. After a Broncos (5-5-1) cross found the head of a defender, Julie Doyle saved it from going over the end line and got it to Kennedy who hit a perfect header over the leaping Mustangs (5-5-1) goalkeeper.

Both teams attempted 16 shots with four on goal and each keeper made big saves for their respective teams.

In the 89th minute, Courtney Ogren made the save of the match to keep Santa Clara on top. Megan Abutin had a great look from the top of the 18-yard box that Ogren went high in the air to knock over the crossbar.

Ogren finished with four saves and picked up her first shutout of the year.

The Broncos nearly added on in the 81st but Myah Baksh's shot was deflected over the crossbar by Brittney Viboch who ended with two saves.

QUOTABLE
"We're very happy to get a win today and to get our first shutout of the year. Credit to Cal Poly who was very organized and tough to play against. We created a lot of shots but didn't have any clean looks, even on our goal. They did a great job of defending their penalty box. I'm proud of the team for finishing nonconference play on a winning note and hopefully the shutout is a sign of things to come."
