SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's soccer opened West Coast Conference play Friday night with a dominant 4-0 victory against Loyola Marymount.
Kelsey Turnbow was the star of the night for the Broncos (6-5-1, 1-0 WCC) with a goal and two assists. Maddy Gonzalez scored her team-leading fifth of the season and also had an assist.
Only seven saves from Lions (5-3-3, 0-1 WCC) goalkeeper Charlee Pruitt kept the game from getting out of hand.
The scoring started in the 28th minute with another goal coming less than three minutes later. Natalie Kennedy got Santa Clara on the board when a pass from Kelcie Hedge found her in front of an empty net and Gonzalez added one off a rebound in the 31st to make it 2-0.
Just before the half, Julie Doyle added a third Bronco goal. After getting the ball just inside the top of the box, Doyle put a few moves on her defenders and fired a shot that hit the keeper but went through her hands and into the net.
Gonzalez found Turnbow in the 56th to make it 4-0. Turnbow took a touch in the box and blasted a shot into the back of the net to complete her big night.
