Turnbow's Freshman of the Year Nod Leads Women's Soccer All-WCC Selections

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara women's soccer had five players honored on the All-West Coast Conference teams, including the Freshman of the Year for the second consecutive year and 10th time in program history, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

Kelsey Turnbow was named Freshman of the Year, First Team All-WCC and WCC All-Freshman. Julie Doyle nabbed First Team All-WCC and WCC All-Freshman. Alex Loera was named Second Team All-WCC and WCC All-Freshman with Maddy Gonzalez taking home second team honors and Gudrun Arnardottir, the 2016 WCC Freshman of the Year, was honorable mention.

Turnbow finished the regular season second in the WCC with 12 goals and second on the Broncos with five assists. At Saint Mary's (Oct. 20) Turnbow became the 18th Bronco to record a hat trick. It was the 28th time it had been accomplished in program history.

She has the most goals by a freshman in a season since Leslie Osborne scored 13 in 2001, the year Santa Clara won the national championship.

Doyle, out for the remainder of the season with an injury, finished tied for second on the team with eight goals and added three assists.

Gonzalez has also scored eight goals and added four assists to place second on the team with 20 points.

Arnardottir has scored three times and added a pair of assists from the back line of the Broncos.

Loera has one assist on the season while starting all 19 matches that she has appeared in.
