SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's soccer continues its quest for the College Cup with a third round matchup at No. 5 South Carolina Sunday at 11 a.m. Pacific.

On Friday, the Broncos beat Vanderbilt 3-1 in Columbia to advance to the third round for the second consecutive season. It is the first time they have been to the third round in back-to-back years since 2004-05.

NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Santa Clara has been to 27 NCAA Tournaments in program history and made the College Cup 10 times, culminating with a national championship in 2001. The victory over Vanderbilt was the 53rd in program history in the postseason.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (15-6-1, 8-1 WCC) finished second in the WCC standings, just one point behind Pepperdine. The Broncos lead the conference with 51 goals, 37 assists, and 139 points. They have outscored opponents 29-8 during their nine-game win streak and are the only WCC school remaining in the tournament.

Santa Clara has gotten 39 of its 51 goals from underclassmen and 22 from freshmen.

They are led on offense by Kelsey Turnbow, the WCC Freshman of the Year, who has scored 13 goals and is second on the Broncos with five assists. She has the most goals by a freshman in a season since Leslie Osborne also scored 13 in 2001, the year Santa Clara won the national championship.

Maddy Gonzalez has scored 10 goals, including a pair against the Commodores, and added four assists while Julie Doyle also has eight goals and three assists but will miss the rest of the year with an injury. Maria Sanchez is tied for the conference lead with six assists and has scored five goals. Seven other Broncos have scored at least once.

Melissa Lowder has appeared in 17 games in net and made 67 saves for a .736 save percentage. She has four shutouts with Courtney Ogren also recording one.

THE GAMECOCKS
South Carolina (17-2-1) won the SEC regular season title but fell in the first round of the conference tournament 1-0 to Arkansas. The Gamecocks only other loss was at Wake Forest in the fourth game of the season.

Elexa Bahr leads South Carolina with eight goals and is second with 17 points. Savannah McCaskill has scored seven goals and has a team-high nine assists for 23 points. Luciana Zullo has scored five goals and Bianca Galassini has four while five other Gamecocks have scored.

Mika Krzeczowski has allowed nine goals for a 0.48 GAA. She has 41 saves and a .820 save percentage while picking up 11 shutouts. The team has 13 shutouts on the year.
