SAN BRUNO, Calif. – For the second year in a row, No. 19 Santa Clara women's soccer has been picked to win the West Coast Conference in a preseason poll of the league's 10 head coaches. Three Broncos were also named to the Preseason All-WCC Team, tied for the most by a team.
Santa Clara edged out Pepperdine, the reigning champs, 77-76 in the poll with both teams picking up five first place votes.
Julie Doyle, Maddie Gonzalez, and Kelsey Turnbow were the three Broncos to be named Preseason All-WCC. The trio were also named to the 2017 All-WCC teams with Turnbow being named WCC Freshman of the Year, First Team All-WCC, and WCC All-Freshman, Gonzalez taking home second team honors, and Doyle nabbing First Team and All-Freshman.
The Broncos play their Red and White Scrimmage Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Stevens Stadium and open the year at San Jose State Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. The home-opener is Aug. 20 at 7:30 p.m. vs. Cal.
