Women's Soccer Has Successful Red and White Scrimmage

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Getting its first action under the lights, Santa Clara women's soccer hosted its Red and White Scrimmage Saturday night at Stevens Stadium.

The game was split into two 45-minute halves, with a change of lineups after the break. The first half saw two evenly divided teams while the second was the projected starters against the reserves.

The first and only goal of the first session came in the 39th minute off the foot of Vanessa Mejia. After her first shot was saved by Melissa Lowder, Mejia stuck with it and came up with a rebound that just found its way over the end line to make it 1-0.

The starters took care of business in the second half, scoring three times.

Maria Sanchez took the ball down the field in the 56th minute and from outside the box hit a low shot to the near post that slipped into the goal to give the white team the 1-0 lead.

In the 60th minute, DB Pridham sent a nice long ball to Kelcie Hedge who took a few touches before finishing to give the white team a 2-0 lead.

The final goal came in the 88th minute off the foot of Kelsey Turnbow. Kaile Halvorsen found Turnbow at the top of the box and after a few touches, she found the back of the net.
