SAN JOSE, Calif. – A come-from-behind 2-1 victory opened the season for Santa Clara women's soccer Friday night at San Jose State.

Despite outshooting the Spartans (0-1) 21-5, the Broncos (1-0) found themselves down 1-0 midway through the second half but Maddy Gonzalez stepped up and scored two goals in the span of five minutes.

With the scored knotted at 1-all, Maria Sanchez passed to Gonzalez near the top of the box. Gonzalez took a touch before finishing inside the left post to make it 2-1.

Minutes earlier in the 72nd, Gonzalez evened the score with some fancy moves. Going down the field with the ball, she moved back and forth around the defender before getting some space in the box and finished inside the far post.

Natasha Harris broke the scoreless tie in the 61st minute to give the Spartans the 1-0 lead. Freshman Jada Wilson found Harris on the right side before she was able to slip a shot past Melissa Lowder.
