SAN BRUNO, Calif. – After tying a 19-year-old program record, Maria Sanchez of Santa Clara women's soccer was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
Sanchez collected four assists in the Broncos 4-1 home-opening win over Cal on Aug. 20 in their only action of the week.
The only other time the feat was accomplished in Santa Clara history was Oct. 29, 1999 vs. Portland by Mandy Clemens.
With her four assists against the Bears and one at San Jose State in the season-opener, Sanchez is in a tie for second in the NCAA and leads the country with 2.5 per game.
The Broncos are back in action tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Stevens Stadium against North Texas.
