Big Weekend for No. 12 Women's Soccer Begins with No. 2 North Carolina Friday Night

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 12 Santa Clara women's soccer returns home to begin a big three-game homestand with No. 2 North Carolina Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

Last week, the Broncos went 2-1, topping North Texas 1-0 and Kansas State 2-0 at home before falling on the road at No. 8 Texas A&M.

SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 4-16 all-time against North Carolina with the first meeting coming in 1989. The last meeting was a 2-0 Tar Heel victory at the Klockner Classic in Virginia in 2013.

The Broncos biggest win over North Carolina was the 2001 national title game that they won 1-0.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (4-1) has outscored its opponents 9-6 on the year and hold an 87-39 edge in shots. The Broncos have put 34 shots on goal while allowing 19.

Maria Sanchez leads the team with five assists and nine points. Maddy Gonzalez has scored a team-high three goals with Kelsey Turnbow adding two. DB Pridham has scored once and added two assists.

Melissa Lowder has started all five games in net and allowed five goals. She has 12 saves and two shutouts on the year.

THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina (5-0-1) has outscored opponents 12-2 on the year with a 125-44 advantage in shots and a 56-16 lead in shots on goal. The Tar Heels have played three ranked teams, going 2-0-1. They beat No. 23 Ohio State 2-0 and No. 23 UCF 1-0 while drawing 1-1 with No. 21 Texas.

Four players are tied for the team-lead with two goals each and four others have scored once apiece. Julia Ashley leads the team with six points and Rachael Dorwart is tied for the team-lead with two assists. Twelve other Tar Heels have addaed an assist each.

Claudia Dickey and Samantha Leshnak have split time in goal, both appearing in all six games. Dickey hasn't allowed a goal and has five saves while Leshnak has allowed two goals and made nine saves.

Parking: For weekday matches, the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to kickoff. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located adjacent to Stevens Stadium on Palm Drive.
