Offense Leads No. 12 Women's Soccer Past Notre Dame Sunday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – An offensive minded effort from No. 12 Santa Clara women's soccer led to a 3-2 win over Notre Dame Sunday afternoon at Stevens Stadium.

After the game was tied at 1-all early in the second half, the Broncos (6-1) scored two goals in the span of two minutes but had to withstand a strong push from the Irish (4-4) late in the match.

Some determination in front of the goal in the 57th minute by Skylar Smith put Santa Clara up 2-1. After Smith's shot was nicely saved by Brooke Littman, she took the rebound and blasted her second chance into the back of the net for her first career goal.

Kelsey Turnbow added another goal two minutes later to make it 3-1. Maddy Gonzalez passed to Turnbow who put a couple moves on her defender before finishing low and inside the far post.

Notre Dame cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 73rd minute. Sammi Fisher blasted a shot from over 20 yards out and that just found its way under the crossbar.

The Broncos took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute. After DB Pridham had a shot blocked, Maria Sanchez gathered the ball near the edge of the box and blasted a left-footed shot inside the right post.

In the 49th minute, Notre Dame drew even. A failed clear by the Bronco defense, gave Jennifer Westendorf the ball just outside the top of the box. She hit a shot perfectly into the upper-left corner to make it 1-1.
