No. 6 Women's Soccer Looks To Keep Rolling vs. Cal Poly

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Heading into the final week of nonconference play, No. 6 Santa Clara women's soccer, third in the first RPI of the year, hosts Cal Poly Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the last home match for three weeks.

The Broncos took care of TCU 3-0 on Thursday and battled at No. 1 Stanford to a 1-1 draw Sunday to continue their best start to a season since 2007.

The No. 6 ranking is the highest Santa Clara has been since 2007 when the Broncos reached No. 1 in the country.

SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 17-2-3 all-time against Cal Poly with the first meeting coming in 1981. Last year top the Mustangs 1-0 in San Luis Obispo. The Broncos have won the last three meetings in the series by a combined score of 8-0.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (7-1-1) has outscored its opponents 17-9 on the season and hold a 135-106 edge in shots while putting 57 on goal and is off to its best start since starting 2007 7-1-1. The Broncos have played eight matches in a row against teams that were either ranked or received votes in the polls.

Maria Sanchez is second in the WCC with six assists and is second on Santa Clara with three goals while leading the team with 12 points. Maddy Gonzalez has scored a team-high four goals to go along with one assist and Kelsey Turnbow has found the back of the net three times. Six other Broncos have scored at least one goal each.

Melissa Lowder, the WCC Player of the Week, has started all nine games and allowed eight goals for a 0.93 GAA. She has 39 saves and a .830 save percentage to go with four shutouts on the year.

THE MUSTANGS
Cal Poly (0-6-3) has had a rough start to the season, getting outscored 22-7 and has lost its last two games by a combined score of 7-1.

Jessica Johnson leads the team with two goals and four points and Ashley Kirchick has a team-high two assists. Five other Mustangs have scored one goal each and four have one assist apiece.

Sophia Brown has allowed 22 goals for a 2.39 GAA and has made 51 saves for a .699 save percentage with one shutout.

Parking: For weekday matches, the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to kickoff. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located adjacent to Stevens Stadium on Palm Drive.
