First Place Teams Battle as No. 6 Women's Soccer Travels to BYU Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – With a West Coast Conference title on the line, No. 6 Santa Clara women's soccer heads to BYU for a Saturday match at 4 p.m. Pacific.

The Broncos took down San Diego 2-1 in overtime on the road Thursday night to set up the showdown of first place teams.

SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 8-1-4 all-time against BYU with the first meeting coming in 1993. Last year the Broncos topped BYU 4-3 in the final game of the regular season.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (15-2-1, 6-1 WCC) is second to BYU in the WCC with 40 goals scored and has put 140 of 302 shots on target.

Maria Sanchez is second in the league with 10 assists and leads the Broncos with 20 points behind five goals. She is the first Bronco with double-digit assists since Megan Kakadelas had 14 in 2002.

Kelcie Hedge and Maddy Gonzalez are tied for the team lead with seven goals apiece while Kelsey Turnbow and Skylar Smith have scored six each. Turnbow is second on the Broncos with five assists as well.

Melissa Lowder has allowed 16 goals for a 1.00 GAA and has 57 saves for a .781 save percentage. She has six shutouts on the season.

THE COUGARS
BYU (11-4-1, 6-1 WCC) leads the conference with 44 goals and has put 153 of its 364 shots on frame while allowing 18 goals.

Elise Flake has a team-high 12 goals and 29 points while Rachel Lyman's six assists lead the Cougars. Six other BYU players have found the back of the net at least three times to lead a balanced scoring attack with five others scoring once each.

Sabrina Davis has been the main keeper for BYU, allowing 14 goals and making 41 saves. She has a 1.10 GAA and a .745 save percentage. The Cougars have five shutouts as a team.
