Women's Soccer Finalizes Opponents for Foreign Trip

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Ahead of its foreign trip to France, Santa Clara women's soccer announced its three opponents for the 10 day trip.

The Broncos will open competition with North France Select, a collection of the best players from the area, on June 29. July 1 will see Santa Clara take on FF Issy, a French club team. The final game will be July 4 against South France Select, another group of the best players from the area.

"These games in France will be different than a lot of the college games we play," Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith said. "The substitution rules are different, the tactics are different so it's a wonderful opportunity to grow. France has become one of few countries in the entire world that has been celebrated for what they do in development of their players. We're going to be playing great players who are technically and tactically better than us. We'll probably be a little more athletic than they will be but it will be a contrast. We're hoping to learn from these teams and take that back here and become an even better team in the upcoming college season."

In addition to three competitions, Santa Clara will watch three matches during the Women's World Cup. The Broncos will watch a quarterfinals match on June 28 in Paris as well as the semifinals in Lyon July 2-3.
