Strong Second Half Propels Women's Soccer To Win Over UC Santa Barbara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In a match of two halves, Santa Clara women's soccer beat UC Santa Barbara 2-0 Thursday night at home.

After a nearly even first half, the Broncos (5-5) asserted their dominance over the Gauchos (3-3-3) by holding a 11-3 edge in shots. For the game Santa Clara outshot UC Santa Barbara 18-9 with an 8-3 lead in shots on frame.

Freshman sensation Izzy D'Aquila did all the scoring for the Broncos in the span of just over three minutes with Kelsey Turnbow picking up two assists and Maddy Gonzalez and Alex Loera each adding one.

Quick passing between Gonzalez, Turnbow, and D'Aquila finally got the Broncos on the board in the 56th minute to make it 1-0. One-touch passes found their way to D'Aquila who found the back of the net with her shot.

D'Aquila's second goal was set up after Loera intercepted a pass in the defensive third. She dribbled up the field and sent a long pass to D'Aquila who knocked it down and beat the keeper to make it 2-0 in the 59th minute.

Courtney Ogren collected her third and the team's fourth clean sheet of the year while making three saves.

Her counterpart, Hanna DeWeese had a strong game in net, making six saves. The Gauchos leading scorer Shaelen Murison managed a team-high six shots but just one was on target.
