D'Aquila Scores Twice in No. 23 Women's Soccer's 3-0 Win Over LMU

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 23 Santa Clara women's soccer pushed its unbeaten streak (7-0-2) to nine matches with a dominant 3-0 win over LMU Saturday afternoon.

The Broncos (11-5-2, 5-0-2 WCC) were on the front foot from the opening whistle and got a pair of goals from fabulous freshman Izzy D'Aquila to put her back atop the team with 13 on the year. They ended the day with 12 of 22 shots on frame and surrendered just three to the Lions (4-11-2, 3-4 WCC), all off target.

The top two offensive performers for Santa Clara, D'Aquila and Kelsey Turnbow, teamed up in the 15th minute to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead. Turnbow worked to get by some defenders before sending a through ball to D'Aquila who took a couple touches to get around the goalkeeper and finish in the empty net.

In the 63rd the Broncos stretched their lead to 2-0 on D'Aquila's second of the day. Audrey Hegardt found Emma Reeves on the left side and her perfect cross found the head of D'Aquila who got just enough to get it in.

Maddy Gonzalez added a goal in the 75th minute that made it a three-goal lead. A header by a Lions defender failed to clear the ball and Gonzalez was in the right spot before blasting a shot into the upper-left corner of the net to make it 3-0.

Courtney Ogren and Sophie Whitehouse each played a half, giving Santa Clara its ninth shutout of the year and second in a row.

On the other end, Sadie Kenny kept things from getting out of hand with nine saves of her own.
