Women's Soccer Falls to BYU 2-1

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 9 Santa Clara women's soccer got an early goal but was a little out of sync on offense and fell to No. 17 BYU 2-1 Wednesday night at home in a nonconference match.

The Cougars (9-3-1, 5-1 WCC) responded to the early deficit and found the equalizer in the 11th minute when Mikayla Colohan knocked in a rebound.

BYU kept the momentum going on offense, creating more dangerous chances through the 90 minutes, and got the winner in the 57th when Cameron Tucker ran down a ball and was able to beat Broncos (5-1, 5-0 WCC) keeper Marlee Nicolos.

On the night, the Cougars finished with 12 shots and put five on target with Nicolos making three saves. BYU keeper Cassidy Smith made one.

The night started with a bit of history for Santa Clara. Kelsey Turnbow sent a through ball to Izzy D'Aquila in the 5th minute that D'Aquila controlled and beat the keeper to give Santa Clara the quick 1-0 lead.

The assist was the 25th of Turnbow's career to go along with 41 goals, making her the eighth Bronco to join the 25 goal-25 assist club. She is the first Santa Clara player to accomplish the feat since Leslie Osborne did it in 2003.
