Women's Soccer Opens Conference Play With Win Over San Diego

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – West Coast Conference play beginning seemed to get Santa Clara women's soccer back on track with a convincing 2-0 win over San Diego Saturday afternoon. It was the team's first home match since August 29.

The Broncos (4-4-2, 1-0 WCC) came out on the front foot and showed their offensive prowess through the full 90 minutes. They finished the game with 33 shots, 13 on target. On the defensive side, they allowed just five shots to the Toreros (5-4-, 0-1 WCC) who put three on frame.

The goals came from Sally Menti in the 27th on assists from Emma Reeves and Skylar Smith and Kelsey Turnbow in the 57th off assists from Izzy D'Aquila and Alex Loera.

Kylie Foutch made three saves to collect her first career win and shutout.

On the other goal line, Ellyn Casto finished the day with 11 saves to keep her team within striking distance

  • Santa Clara is now 21-8 all-time against San Diego.
  • Kelsey Turnbow remains in sixth place in career goals with 50, behind No. 5 Mikka Hansen and her 52 goals. She is 10th all-time at Santa Clara with 28 assists. Next is Osborne with 34. Turnbow is also at 126 points, which is seventh. Next is Aly Wagner's 127.
