No. 23 Women's Soccer and Gonzaga End in Scoreless Draw

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 23 Santa Clara women's soccer had their chances but couldn't convert and ended up with a scoreless draw against Gonzaga on Wednesday night.

With the tie, the Broncos (9-6-3, 6-0-2 WCC) still control their own destiny for their third consecutive West Coast Conference title. With a win at Pepperdine Saturday in the regular season finale, Santa Clara wins the title outright. With a tie and a BYU win at LMU, the Broncos and Cougars would be co-champions.

It was a frustrating night as Santa Clara outshot the Bulldogs (9-3-5, 4-1-3 WCC) 24-5. The problem was that the Broncos couldn't put enough of those shots on target, finishing with just five on frame. They did have some close calls with a ball saved off the line and a shot off the crossbar.

NOTES

  • Santa Clara had a 9-3 edge in shots in the first half and a dominant 15-4 advantage in the second half.
  • The Broncos also drew 11 corner kicks, including seven in the second half, while surrendering just one.
  • Marlee Nicolos made her one save count on a diving stop against Gonzaga's lone shot on target.
  • Lyza Bosselmann made four saves for the Bulldogs.
  • Santa Clara is now 24-1-3 all-time vs. Gonzaga.
