Softball Falls Twice to Stanford, 12-1, 3-0

STANFORD, Calif. - Santa Clara's softball team lost to 15th-ranked Stanford 12-1 and 3-0, this afternoon at Stanford Softball Stadium. With the losses, the Broncos fall to 0-4 on the year. Stanford improves to 3-0.

Santa Clara freshman second baseman Tess Nesbitt recorded two hits in each game, including a double in the second contest that later saw her record the team's only run as junior pitcher Deanna Rodriguez recorded the RBI with her single in the first.

The Broncos were outhit 13-3 to open the day's play, as the first game was stopped midway through the fifth inning as officials invoked the Eight-Run Rule. The other Bronco hit of the day was recorded by freshman pinch hitter Jennifer Henderson.

Rodriguez (0-2) and senior pitcher Krista Barry (0-2) each recorded a loss on the afternoon.

Santa Clara will open its home season on Wednesday, Feb. 7 against UC Davis. The doubleheader will begin at 4 p.m. at Marsalli Park.
