Softball Splits with San Jose State

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Santa Clara defeated San Jose State 4-3 in the opening game of a doubleheader against the Spartans this afternoon at the SJSU Field. The Broncos were shut out in the second game 2-0. Santa Clara improves to 3-7 on the season while the Spartans move to 5-8.

In the first game, the Broncos took a 4-0 lead in the fourth, scoring all four runs on three hits, a walk and an error. San Jose State rallied with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and one in the fifth.

Kirsten Foster and Veronica Ramos drove in the Spartan runs in the second game. Foster had an RBI single in the third inning to score Ramos, who led off the frame with a walk. Ramos' hit in the fourth scored Katie Gomes, who also led off the inning with a walk.

Santa Clara will return home for a midweek doubleheader against Tennessee on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at Marsalli Park. The twinbill is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
