Santa Clara Women's Soccer Falls to No. 15 Virginia 1-0

STANFORD, Calif. - The 19th-ranked Santa Clara women's soccer fell to No. 15 Virginia at New Maloney Field, concluding play at the Stanford Classic.

With the loss, the Broncos fall to 4-3-0. The nine shots Santa Clara posted were the fewest this season.

Virginia's Sarah Lane scored the only goal of the match, beating her defender at the 75:07 mark.

With the win, Virginia improves to 4-3-0 on the season and takes the series edge over Santa Clara 2-1-0. The Cavaliers won the series opener in 1991, while the Broncos took a 1995 contest. All three matches ended in 1-0 scores.

Santa Clara remains close to home for the second consecutive week and will take part in the adidas Bay Area Classics, hosted at San Jose State's Spartan Stadium. The Broncos will play No. 6 Stanford on Fri., Sept. 22 at 8:30 p.m. and No. 25 California on Sun., Sept. 24 at 3 p.m. Santa Clara will conclude its string of six matches against ranked opponents at this tournament.
