HONOLULU, Hawaii - The Santa Clara University softball team defeated the University of Hawaii 4-1 this evening at the Chevron Paradise Classic, hosted by Hawaii at Rainbow Wahine Stadium. The Broncos' record improves to 4-5 on the season, while the Wahine fall to 2-1.

Junior Jaime Forman-Lau led the Broncos defensively, striking out 13 for the win.

"Everybody out there was so intense and focused for the game," SCU head coach Marcy Crouch said. "Jaime just dominated, and the way she and (catcher) Roni Rivera work out there together... well, they just shut the other team down."

Seniors Coresta Salas and Lauren Fissori registered one hit each for the Broncos, as did junior Rachel Sherman and freshman Jenny Brown.

Santa Clara took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but Hawaii evened the game with a run in the top of the fifth. The Broncos responded with three runs in the bottom of that frame.

Each team registered five hits. A box score was not available at press time.

Santa Clara will close the tournament tomorrow, taking part in a single-elimination round. Although three teams finished with 2-2 marks during round-robin play, the Broncos were seeded fourth based on head-to-head-competition and will face Louisville at 10 a.m. Hawaii Time.
