FRESNO, Calif. - Santa Clara dropped a 3-0 decision to Iowa State to open the Bulldog Classic by Bingham Toyota, hosted by Fresno State. The Broncos' overall record is now 8-9. Iowa State is now 2-8 on the season.
Vanessa Werner led the Broncos with 2 of the team's four hits. Jenny Brown and Maggie Godfrey also added hits. Liz Courter took the loss for the Broncos.
Iowa State scored all three runs in the bottom of the third.
Santa Clara will continue action at the tournament with a Friday contest against St. John's at 9 a.m. Saturday's schedule includes a 3 p.m. contest against host and 19th-ranked Fresno State and a 7 p.m. meeting with Kent State. On Sunday, the Broncos will close out participation in the event against defending national champion and fourth-ranked UCLA at 11 a.m. and Mississippi at 1 p.m.
