PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Santa Clara softball team's quest for their first win continues after an 8-2 loss to Missouri at the Stanford Invitational Saturday morning. The Broncos started the game well, but it was again the big inning which hurt Santa Clara, who was unable to rebound.

The Broncos started the game in strong fashion, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. Nori Kamada singled up the middle, stole a base, and then scored on an Emily Batt single. For Batt it was her first RBI of the season.

In the second, the Broncos played good defense to get the final two outs after Rauschnot had loaded the bases. A sharp ground ball to thirdbaseman Ashley Blier with one out was fielded cleanly and Blier's throw was right on the mark to retire the runner at home plate.

Then in the bottom of the third, giving up two runs and loading the bases again, Rauschnot was replaced by Lauren Passafuime. Then after a hit to Angela Kabanuck in centerfield, her throw down to third to get a greedy runner went wide of Blier and all three baserunners scored on the play.

Then in the fourth a hit batsman and an error allowed two more runs to score.

In the fifth the Broncos were able to get going again. Alyc Kalamaha led off the inning with a double deep to the gap in right-centerfield. Kalamaha advanced to third on a sacrifice fly by Jackie Morales, and then scored on a sacrifice by Kabanuck. Again in the sixth, the Broncos had a runner in scoring position, but the Broncos were unable to capitalize.

Another error and passed ball allowed Missouri runner to get into scoring position, who later scored on a base hit in Sara Overmier's first inning on the mound.

The Broncos have another game this afternoon, likely against either Stanford or Pacific which will begin at 2:00 p.m.
