Broncos Suffer One-Hitter Against UC Santa Barbara, Lose 4-0

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara softball team suffered a tough loss to tournament host UC Santa Barbara Saturday morning. Santa Barbara pitcher Lindsey Correa held the Broncos to a single hit, retiring the Broncos in order until the top of the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Santa Barbara led off with a home run off freshman Kaitlyn Rauschnot. Rauschnot pitched 4.0 innings and gave up only on earned run. Then in the fifth, after Jerrica Castagno took over the Gauchos stole another run after a hit batsman, a sacrifice and a base hit.

The Broncos got their first baserunner in the sixth when freshman Emily Batt singled to right field and then Noelani Hoopii walked. Senior Sara Overmier sacrificed to put the runners at second and third, but Angela Kabanuck hit into a fielders choice and Batt was thrown out at home plate.

In the bottom of the sixth, a hit an error and a passed ball added two more runs for Santa Barbara to account for the final margin.

The Broncos will wrap up the UCSB Mini Tournament with one more game against UCSB.
