SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The 2007 season came to an end Sunday afternoon for the Santa Clara softball team, as the Broncos were swept in the day's doubleheader by the Loyola Marymount Lions. The Broncos dropped game one, 7-2, as the Lions used a seven-run second inning to put SCU in an early hole, before falling 8-1 in the finale, as the LMU offense proved to be too much to overcome.

Sara Overmier, playing in her final games as a Bronco, went a combined 3-for-5 on Senior Day at Marsalli Park, while fellow senior Angela Kabanuck had a double and two RBIs. Meghan Chavez also had an RBI on the day, as the Broncos finished the year with a 12-47 overall record, and 5-15 mark in the PCSC.

In the opener, LMU struck first, and struck hard with a seven-run outburst in the second inning. Tracy Cook led off the inning with a home run to left, followed by Christine Foley reaching on an error, Chelsie Tysdal being hit by a pitch, and Tiffany Gonzales drawing a walk to load the bases. From there, Kirsten Whitt grounded a ball to short, where SCU shortstop Chavez couldn't make a play, resulting in the inning's second run scoring, and all runners being safe.

MiaSarah Cesena then did the main damage of the frame, knocking a double to the fence in left-center that cleared the bases. RBI singles from Kylie Conroy and Foley chased SCU starter Lauren Passafuime, who suffered her seventh loss of the year, and capped the inning's scoring, as well as LMU's scoring for the game, as the Lions led 7-0.

The Broncos got two in the sixth, as Kabanuck delivered a bases-loaded double to left-center that scored pinch-runner Jerrica Castagno and Nori Kamada. But with two runners in scoring position and no outs, Santa Clara could not get any more runs across, and the first game ended with a 7-2 setback.

LMU got on the board first once more in the second game, as Conroy's fielder's choice to short allowed Kirsten Slouber to score for the 1-0 lead. The Broncos tied things up right away in the second, as after Overmier walked and was sacrificed to second, Chavez delivered a base hit up the middle to plate the tying run.

But it was all Lions after that, as Foley delivered a two-run single in the third to put LMU ahead, 3-1, and a Bronco error in the fourth allowed two unearned runs to score, as the Lions put up three in that inning to take a commanding 6-1 lead. The Lions capped their scoring in the fifth, as back-to-back home runs from Foley and Tysdal made the final margin 8-1, LMU.
