SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University senior Sara Overmier received more recognition for her outstanding year with the softball team, as she was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII Second Team. She is one of two members of the Pacific Coast Softball Conference to pick up the honor in 2007.

"Sara has exemplified a Bronco student-athlete during her time here," said softball head coach Steve Rianda. "She has displayed excellence in academics, leadership and athletics. We are all very proud of her efforts and accomplishments."

Overmier, who was also named All-PCSC Second Team, had a career year as a senior in 2007. After spending most of her career as a pitcher, Overmier played the outfield and served as the team's designated player, while still appearing in seven games on the mound. In all games, she finished third in batting average on the team (.274) and had four home runs, 16 RBIs, while posting a .353 on base percentage. The senior from San Andreas, Calif. did most of her damage at the plate in the conference season, leading SCU in hitting (.367), slugging (.612) and on base percentage (.412) along with tying for the home run lead with three. On the mound, she appeared seven times with one start for the Broncos.

In the classroom, Overmier has earned a 3.76 cumulative GPA as an accounting major. During her final year at SCU, she earned the prestigious Hackworth Fellowship and has focused her fellowship on sports and ethics.
