SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's softball team will take on the Pacific Tigers this Saturday, Feb. 20, in a doubleheader beginning at noon.

This weekend's games will be the first home series of the season for Pacific, who is also 0-4 on the season after losing twice to both then-No. 24 Fresno State and Sacramento State at the Fresno State Kick-Off Tournament last weekend.

Leadoff hitter and sophomore outfielder Briana Knight has had the most success at the plate for the Broncos. Knight is sporting a .364 batting average with four hits, two of which were single home runs against Fresno State. Sophomores Catherine Surane and Kristin Welsh each have two hits. Four pitchers have seen action in the circle thus far. Veteran Kaitlyn Rauschnot has pitched the most innings, 10.0, and has four strikeouts.

The Tigers were shutout twice by Fresno State last weekend, but only gave up one run in each of the contests. The second loss went eight innings until the outcome was decided. Pacific also went into extra innings with Sacramento State, falling 6-3 after giving up four runs in the top of the eighth in their first meeting. The second game ended 3-2 in favor of the Hornets.

Outfielder Lindsey Pierce is leading the Tiger offense with a .462 batting average. Pierce has for 6-for-13 at the plate with a double and a triple while scoring three runs. Freshman utility player Nikki Armagost leads in RBIs with two. On the rubber, primary starter Shaina Brock has pitched 13.0 innings with a 2.15 ERA and 13 strikeouts while giving up four earned runs and 11 hits.

The two teams met thrice last year with Pacific taking all three games in the series. Santa Clara put up nine runs on the Tiger defense in 2009.
