Kristin Welsh Earns PCSC Player Of The Week Honors

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Sophomore Kristin Welsh was named this week's Pacific Coast Softball Conference Coastal Division Player of the Week after Santa Clara went 2-1 this weekend at the San Jose State South Bay Super Series.

Welsh went a combined 5-for-8 over the weekend with six RBIs and two home runs in a weekend in which Santa Clara defeated Princeton once, 8-6, in a doubleheader and Cal State Fullerton, 14-9.

Against Princeton in the Bronco victory, Welsh went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, hitting a solo home run in the seventh for the Broncos' final run of the game. Welsh also hit a single that scored two runs, reached on a fielder's choice, and successfully completed a sacrifice bunt that ultimately led to the Broncos first run of the game. She had five put outs and one assist at second base.

In the Santa Clara 6-8 loss to Princeton, Welsh went 1-for-2 with a double. She also had two successful sacrifice bunts, one of which eventually led to a Bronco run.

Against Cal State Fullerton, Welsh was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and hit a two-run shot over the left center fence in her first at-bat to set off the Santa Clara six-run offensive explosion in the second inning. She also had a single and was walked in the fifth to send in her third RBI of the game. She had 2 assists and four putouts at second base.

Welsh is the second Santa Clara player to be honored by the PCSC. Megan Smith was the PCSC's Coastal Division Player of the Week last week.
