SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Santa Clara softball team fell to San Jose State, 4-2, in the third game this season between the two squads. The Spartans scored one run each in the fifth and sixth innings to steal the game away from the Broncos.

San Jose State homered in the second to take a 1-0 lead but Santa Clara answered back in the fourth to take their first lead over the Spartans this season.  Sophomore Kristin Welsh doubled to score junior Amanda Edmonson and stole home to give the Broncos the 2-1 lead.

San Jose State tied the gameon a sacrifice fly in the fourth and took the lead on an error at third base in the fifth, specifically for obstruction of the runner, allowing Kelli Fangonilo to score.

In the sixth, a double by the Spartans' Alex Stange scored BranDee Garcia for the final run of the game as Santa Clara was unable to score junior Jackie Nicora who was stranded on second base.

Senior pitcher Kaitlyn Rauschnot tossed the complete game, striking out two and allowing six hits.

Welsh earned the only Santa Clara RBI in the game and went 1-for-3 at the plate.

The Broncos, now 8-15 overall, begins Pacific Coast Softball Conference this weekend with two doubleheaders at Sacramento State. First pitch against the Hornets is scheduled for 12 p.m.
