SCU Softball Rewarded for Academic Excellence, 12 Named to PCSC Honor Roll

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara University’s softball program and its student-athletes continue to be recognized for their outstanding academic accomplishments. Twelve Broncos were named to the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Honor Roll, as announced by conference commissioner Ellen Moore.

“I am really proud to see the continued success in the classroom,” said Santa Clara head softball coach Lisa Mize. “Our athletes work tremendously hard. Balancing studies with the demands of Division I athletics is challenging. They do a great job of prioritizing their academics and that’s an important part of who we are and what this program is about.”

To make the honor roll, a student-athlete had to earn a 3.0 cumulative GPA for the 2009-10 academic year. Santa Clara and Utah Valley each had 12 selections on the honor roll, just one off the league-high of 13. The Broncos had 14 named to the list last year.

Senior third baseman Megan Smith was also named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team earlier this summer. The senior from Salinas, Calif. carried a 3.94 GPA as an Economics major.
