SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara University's Jaymi Bautista-Geiger will represent Peru in the upcoming 2012 Scotiabank Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship at Softball City in Surrey, British Columbia.

Bautista-Geiger was among the most accomplished prep players ever to commit to SCU prior to her freshman season in 2012. She has been rehabbing an injured hand, which kept her sidelined for the majority of April, but is close to a full recovery.

"I think it's going to be a really good tournament," said Bautista-Geiger. "It will definitely be a challenge, but I am excited to play. These hitters are really good and I think it will help me next year at Santa Clara after facing some of these hitters, and also with the bat, as the pitchers throw very hard."

Bautista-Geiger (Gainesville, Fla.) is in her fourth year playing for the Peruvian National Team and competed with the Peruvian U19 team in last year's event. The tournament schedule takes her to British Columbia on Monday, June 25th to begin training with the team. The championship runs through July 8th.

To get ready for the tournament, Bautista-Geiger has been throwing to SCU head coach Lisa Mize, a former Olympic pitcher for the Puerto Rican National Team.

"Jaymi battled a hand injury from the start of the season," says Mize. "I know she is frustrated that she was not able to help the cause this year. However, she is a competitor and determined to come back strong. I have no doubt she will be an impact player for us next year – in the circle and at the plate."

Bautista-Geiger will pitch to long-time national squad teammate Dani Osaki and play alongside infielder Diane Leider, who played for Cal-Berkeley in 2010 and 2011.
