Bay Area Softball Standouts Choose Santa Clara University

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - A trio of outstanding student-athletes - each homegrown players from right here in the Bay Area - have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Santa Clara University and play softball for the Broncos in 2013-14. The official announcement was made Tuesday by fifth-year head coach Lisa Mize.

"This is a talented class, that is bringing speed, power and versatility to our lineup," said Mize, who is preparing the Broncos for the move into the West Coast Conference sponsored softball league in 2014. "These three players will make an immediate impact and we can not wait to get them to campus!"

The incoming class includes:
Kimberly Goulart – UT, 5-foot-5 (Union City, Calif./James Logan HS)
Led Logan HS to a 24-1 overall record and No. 5 national ranking as a junior
Taylor Bojorquez – INF/OF, 5-foot-5 (San Jose, Calif./Leland HS)
Mt. Hamilton Division all-league; three-straight CCS top 5 finishes at Leland
Amanda Delfino – INF, 5-foot-7 (Sunnyvale, Calif./St. Francis HS)
Three-sport varsity athlete; hit .360 for St. Francis in 2012

Making the short trip south on I-880, Kimberly Goulart will come to the Mission campus after a terrific prep career at James Logan High School in Union City. The First Team Mission Valley Athletic League utility player led Logan to the 2012 North Coast Section Division I softball championship. She plays both outfielder and pitcher at Logan, hitting .305 and posting a 1.11 ERA from inside the circle last spring.

"Kimberly is a game-changer type player," said Mize. "She can do it all; she is a great infielder and plays outfield just as well. She also pitches and swings a big bat. Kim comes from a program (Logan H.S.), which has a long history of winning championships so she is a competitor and knows how to win."

San Jose product, Taylor Bojorquez, who plays prep softball at nearby Leland High School, has been named an all-league honoree in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. The 5-foot, 5-inch outfielder has consistently hit over .300 her entire prep career and stars for the Salinas Storm club program.

"Taylor will bring speed to our lineup offensively as a left-handed slapper, and also offer us speed defensively in the outfield," says Mize. "She is a hard worker and fun to watch.  Taylor has  grown up a Santa Clara Bronco fan and we are thrilled to have her be part of our Bronco family."

Rounding out the class is 5-foot, 7-inch infielder Amanda Delfino. Playing in the highly competitive West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL), Delfino was named a 2012 WCAL All-League award winner, while notching a .360 batting average. The three-sport athlete also boasts a Central Coast Section (CCS) Championship with the Lancers' field hockey team, as a four-year varsity team member. Delfino has earned varsity letters playing WCAL girl's soccer.

"
Amanda is a tremendous athlete. She will be a triple threat for us, possessing the ability to hit for power, slap, lay down a sneak bunt and steal lots of bases," said Mize. "There is no doubt Amanda has a bright future ahead of her here at Santa Clara."
