SANTA CLARA, Calif. –
The 2013 Santa Clara University softball schedule has been announced and it includes 25 games at the recently constructed Santa Clara Bronco Softball Stadium, beginning with a doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 9 against the University of the Pacific.

Recent approval of softball as the West Coast Conference's 14th sponsored sport will have both Santa Clara and Pacific competing in the WCC beginning in 2014, with the WCC champion receiving an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. This spring, Santa Clara will be playing its final season within a realigned Pacific Coast Softball Conference (PCSC)

"This is such an exciting time for us," said Santa Clara's Softball Head Coach Lisa Mize referring to the schedule announcement, stadium construction and conference realignment. "We've tried to schedule a lot home games on our new field and we're going to push the (student-athletes) this year by scheduling some top teams, like Cal, Stanford, Oklahoma State and now BYU."

Following the Opening Day doubleheader against Pacific, the Broncos will play their next four games at Stanford's Smith Family Stadium, beginning with a matchup against the Cardinal on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

The Santa Clara Bronco Invitational will be held on the weekend of February 22 through 24, bringing Fresno State University, St. Mary's, Idaho State University and CSU Northridge to the Mission Campus – part of an eight-game Bronco homestand Feb. 22 through Mar. 3.

"I think everyone is going to be surprised by the crowds we will attract," says Mize. "Being on campus and playing here is going to be huge for us. The feedback has already been so positive from the campus community, faculty, staff and students, which is just so awesome for our players. I think being at home for the bulk of the spring is just a huge celebration for the team and program."

The 2013 road schedule is highlighted by a trip in early March to compete in Oklahoma State University's tournament in Stillwater, Oklahoma – near the hometown of Bronco junior pitcher Jessica Turner (Tulsa, OK/Broken Arrow High School).

The PCSC schedule starts with a home series against Loyola Marymount Friday and Saturday, March 29 and 30. PCSC road games dominate the schedule in early April, with SCU traveling to take on CSU Bakersfield (Apr. 6-7) and St. Mary's (Apr. 13-14).

SCU will finish the year hosting two of its final three PCSC weekend series. BYU visits the Mission Campus the weekend of April 19 and 20, and then two weeks later, SCU will play four home games with San Diego May 4 and 5. A home date with Stanford wraps up the regular season on May 7.
