Aggies Claim Six-Inning Victory Over Broncos
2013 Stanford Nike Invitational Tournament

PALO ALTO, Calif. -
The Santa Clara University softball team played UC Davis tough through three innings, but the Aggies poured on the offense by scoring nine runs in the fifth and sixth to come away with a 14-1, six-inning victory over the Broncos on Sunday at the 2013 Stanford Nike Invitational Tournament.

True freshman starting pitcher Ciara Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz. / Mountain Pointe) allowed just one earned run, but five errors on the afternoon by Santa Clara helped fuel the UC Davis attack, which turned a 1-0 UCD lead in the fourth, into a 14-1 final by the end of the sixth.

UC Davis (5-4) had four extra-base hits, with second baseman Chandler Wagner driving in three runs on a double and a triple. Wagner went 2 for 2 officially, one of five Aggies to enjoy a multi-hit game. Shortstop Christa Castello went 2 for 4 and scored three runs, had an RBI and stole a base.

Castello had gone 2 for 3 and scored twice in Saturday's 7-2 Aggie victory over the Broncos as part of the Nike Invitational Tournament hosted by Stanford.

Santa Clara (0-6) dropped each of its three games over the weekend at the event. First losing to Cal State Northridge 5-0 Saturday morning before now having lost two straight to UC Davis.

Jamie Wallis had a pair of hits, going 2 for 3 and driving in the Broncos lone run. SCU had six hits, which all came from the top of the batting order. No. 2 hitter Rochelle Rivera (Westminster, Calif. / Fountain Valley) was 2 for 3, while both Stephanie Fisher (Tracy, Calif. / Tracy) and Chiara Biagini (Santa Clara, Calif. / Archbishop Mitty) hit safely as well.
