Carissa Theis Named PCSC Pitcher of the Week

Santa Clara, Calif. - Carissa Theis was named the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Pitcher of the Week after a very strong performance for the Broncos this past weekend against Loyola Marymount.

In the past four games, she is 1-1 (2-10 overall), but was one out away from adding another win to her record vs. the Lions. She struck out 19 batters while scattering 19 hits and allowing eight runs. Her ERA for the weekend was 1.80 (4.56 overall), pitching 25.0 innings of the 33.0 played.

On the second day of action, Theis started both games for the Broncos and was one out away from winning twice. The Broncos' hurler was outstanding in the opener going the distance allowing just two hits with six strikeouts. She retired 19 straight LMU batters between the second and seventh innings.

"She was hot all weekend," said softball head coach Lisa Mize. "She had a lot of strikeouts in both games, and not a lot of walks. They weren't hitting the ball very hard. It was a gut feeling from us to keep her in there [for the second game of the doubleheader]."

Santa Clara is 5-26 overall, 2-2 in the PCSC.

The Broncos travel to crosstown rival San Jose State Wednesday, April 3, with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.
