Softball Travels to Saint Mary's to Continue PCSC Competition

Santa Clara, Calif. - Santa Clara softball heads north to Saint Mary's on April 13-14 for 12 p.m. doubleheaders on both days. Santa Clara (6-30, 3-5 PCSC) has previously faced the Gaels this season, falling 4-0 at home on Feb. 24.

Casandra Padilla led the charge this past weekend for the Broncos, launching two home runs in as many games to help Santa Clara split the Sunday doubleheader with CSU Bakersfield. Padilla owns a .325 batting average, (.444 in PCSC competition), and has 13 hits, seven runs, eight RBI and three home runs.

"Cassie had another big weekend against Bakersfield," said head coach Lisa Mize. "She is definitely a tone setter for our team. Cassie is a very aggressive player on offense and defense that brings a lot of energy to the field - which is great to have on our side and fun to watch."

Stephanie Fisher has continued her strong junior season, and her .410 batting average is good for second in the PCSC, as well as her .630 slugging percentage and .496 on base percentate are top in the league. She is third in the league with nine doubles and two triples, and has been hit by 12 pitches this season.

Junior first baseman Kelly Scribner had five hits in the past four games, and recorded two RBI for the Broncos.

Carissa Theis, last week's PCSC Pitcher of the Week, was credited with the win in the final game of the CSU Bakersfield series, moving to 3-11 on the season. She has an overall ERA of 3.61, having struck out 58 batters while allowing 89 hits and 56 runs.

Saint Mary's (12-26, 4-8 PCSC) is coming off a 10-2 loss to No. 9/8 California.

"Saint Mary's is always a great rivalry series to play," said Mize. "Our team is pumped for the upcoming weekend against the Gaels. We played them early on in the season so we have some video to go over this week in preparation for the games."

The Gaels are led by Megan Smith (.293 batting average), who has 34 hits, six runs and 17 RBI. Monika Reichhart boasts a .239 batting average, with 17 hits and three runs.

In the circle for Saint Mary's, Lujane Mussadi owns a 2.09 ERA, scattering 148 hits and 64 runs while striking out 48. She has been named PCSC Pitcher of the Week twice this season.
