Softball Drops Doubleheader to BYU

Santa Clara, Calif. - Santa Clara softball fell 3-0 in both games Friday afternoon at the SCU Softball Field. The Broncos fall to 6-37, 3-11 in PCSC play. BYU returns to play another doubleheader, Saturday, April 20th at 12 p.m. against the Broncos.

In game one, Chiara Biagini notched the only hit for SCU. 

BYU scored two runs in the top of the third and added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to take the 3-0 win.

Broncos freshman starter Ciara Gonzales lasted all seven innings, allowing 3 runs on eight hits with one walk. 

In the circle for BYU, Hannah Howell, who tossed a perfect game her last outing, allowed just one hit and struck out five.

In game two, BYU wasted no time taking a 1-0 lead, driving in JC Clayton, three-time PCSC Player of the Week. The Cougars exploded for a two-run, three-hit five inning, which would stand for the 3-0 win.

Casandra Padilla and Kelly Scribner were accountable for the two Broncos hits. 

Briana Rios took the loss for Santa Clara, pitching seven innings and allowing nine hits and three runs with three strikeouts.

Tori Almond moved to 7-5 for BYU, allowing two hits and striking out 10.
